“Geoinfomation. Law and Practice” is the latest book published by the Ius Publicum Foundation under the editorship of Dr. Marlena Jankowska and Dr. Mirosław Pawełczyk as a response to the growing interest in the infrastructure for spatial information.
The uniqueness of its scientific insights highlights the fact that scientific studies on the principles of creating and using this infrastructure are rare. In fact, the sudden abundance of various types of data relating to the above phenomena, on and beneath the surface of the earth, and the technological progress in creating, gathering and making it available has been noticed by the legislator and has been made the subject of specific legislation, particularly regarding the dissemination of spatial data collected by public administrations at different levels .
For this reason, the scholars affiliated with the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Silesia in Katowice took an initiative to bring together a group of specialists from the University of Canberra, Jagiellonian University, University of Miskolc, University of Nebraska – Lincoln College of Law, University of Osnabrück, the State University of Tbilisi, Wageningen UR – Alterra and Kaufmann Consulting to discuss the correctness of applying database law as a basis for creating infrastructure for spatial information. We are confident that the joint venture publication not only contributes to a better knowledge and understanding of the processes occurring in the geo-infrastructure market, but that the collaboration will also become a good opportunity to exchange views and experiences between representatives of science, government and business.

…The reviewed publication presents the legal aspects of the use of spatial data and the construction of infrastructure for spatial information based on the experience of several countries, including some from outside the European Union. In this regard, the perspective is novel, at least in Poland …
Dr. Elizabeth Bielecka, Prof. WAT Military University of Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy

…The number of published writings in recent years in the field of geoinformation is significant. That said, they mostly concern geo-information systems, legal aspects are discussed rarely and vaguely. There is no doubt that the construction of a legal framework for spatial information infrastructure requires a careful analysis of the legal aspects relating to, inter alia, the right to privacy and the protection of intellectual property …
Dr. Małgorzata Gajos, University of Silesia in Katowice, Faculty of Computer Science and Materials Science

… The book “Geoinformation. Law and Practice” is an extremely important position for it enables understanding of the problems of modern day in relation to the GIS […] The book refers to practically most of the issues related to geoinformation and shows a deep understanding of its authors that come from different countries …
